Hi Zack,
I have started listening to your radio show on Qr77 (Calgary) and find it very enjoyable and educational. And I thought you might be the guy I could vent to about the ripoff with our Canadian$ vs. US$ tire prices.
Today I went looking for winter tires for my 2004 BMW X5. I started at the Costco.ca website and came up with a tire called ?Michelin Latitude Alpin HP 255/55R 18? listed at $375.99/tire.
The guy at Costco confirmed this would be a good tire for my vehicle.
Tonight for the heck of it, I checked out Costco.com website and came up with ?Michelin Latitude Alpin Hp 255/55R 18? tires listed at $272.99/tire!
How can they justify $100/tire difference? I believe I?m comparing the exact same tires! Two weeks ago you had the panel discussion about purchasing the US cars and returning to Canada. One journalist offered that we shouldn?t carry on with that practice. Well this small example with tires really would make me scrutinize my options before purchasing a vehicle in Canada.
Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations. Oh and if you have any suggestions about my search for winter tires, feel free to offer. I have been running the same tires since the vehicle was new. I finally told my husband I thought I should get winter tires. So my search continues!
Maybe a show about winter tires is in order!
Sincerely,
Janice |
I have a 2005 BMW X5 and I think the best tire is the Nokian WR which is sold only at Kal Tire. I have had four sets on different BMW's and they are great. I don't remember what they cost but check them out and get back to me.
You could always try www.tirerack.com in the states and have them shipped to you, even with the duty etc they usually are a bit cheaper.
PS-I'm glad you like the show. |
