2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe

By Zack Spencer     March 22, 2011

Verdict

Cadillac recently jumped from twelfth position to number nine in JD Power and Associates Dependability Study of three-year-old vehicles. Out of thirty-four brands, this iconic American nameplate placed right behind Mercedes and well ahead of BMW and Audi. These sorts of improvements along with cutting edge styling have earned Cadillac bragging rights in the premium market and will help alleviate the concerns some people still have about GM's ability to produce good quality cars. The CTS Coupe might not find a large market but the styling and performance showcases what the new GM can do. Criticism could be leveled against management for making this self-indulgent coupe in light of GM's recent bailout but the reality is that this car would have been in the engineering and design stages long before GM came cap in hand. If nothing else, the CTS Coupe gets Cadillac and GM attention in a very competitive market.

The Good, The Bad

Good:

This Cadillac looks like nothing else on the road. The CTS-V might be an alternative to a BMW 6 Series

Bad:

AWD option is too expensive.

The Lowdown

Power: 3.6L V6 with 304hp or supercharged 6.2L V8 with 556hp

Fill-up: 11.4L/6.9L/100km (city/highway) V6 RWD

Backup: 4-year/80,000km

Sticker price: $42,240-72,975

Hello Zack, I am a planning to buy the Cadillac CTS 4- with four wheel drive. What i do not know is, is this all time all wheel drive or another type of system such as in the Honda CRV?

Thank you,

Joe

It is a full-time system with a bias to the rear but can send power to any wheel through torque vectoring.

Hi Zack, Heard you say last week that the dealers make it in the back end. If anyone is getting it in the back end it`s the consumer. Part prices are getting from stupid to insane. I have a 05 caddy sts loaded I bought last year @ 68,000 K. A friend told me that with my magnetic ride control the struts were $1,080 each + tax just for the parts. I was at a GM dealer today just to get some P. S. fluid so I got him to price the struts through the Vin.#. My friend was WRONG. With the full option list mine were $1,360 ea. ( $5,440 for 4 + $272 tax in Alta.=$5,712) PLUS LABOR. So well over 6 grand installed. 1st and last Caddy!!! Lots of neat little things too, like no tranny dip stick. Tranny is a sealed unit. Not to worry, dealer says. If you`r low on fluid and cook the tranny we`ll just sell you a new one. P.S. the former owner says she replaced front struts with less than 45,000 k. on car. Sounds like a real quality GM part for the money. Next time you talk to a GM rep. tell him I`ve got a nice little something for his ''back end'' Ed Zuk

Hello, I am looking at purchasing a 2011 Cadillac CTS Performance Collection Coupe and was wondering what your thoughts on this car are? They are asking $37988. It only has 3000Km''s. It has a 3.6 litre engine.

Thank you,
Darrell Wagner

Nice car and the CTS is very well made, you might want to get an AWD version. See above for my review.
