It was a bit of a shock the other day to fill the family car with gas for $1.50 a litre. Granted, it requires premium fuel but with prices historically trending higher in the summer, regular fuel could be at this level very soon. It's interesting, even in light of high fuel prices that Canadians are moving into larger crossover vehicles and away from small sedans. The fastest growing segment in the market today is the compact crossover with the Ford Escape, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Honda CR-V taking the top three spots. With more mass to move and a larger profile to cut through the air a crossover will never be as efficient as a car but auto makers are trying to reduce the amount of fuel they burn. Mitsubishi has an attractive crossover in this RVR GT, which has a few tricks to try to mitigate the amount of fuel it burns.
The Skin
I often receive calls to my Driving With Zack Spencer radio show on CKNW asking about a possible compact crossover purchase but some buyers are put off by the trend towards sleek lines. There seems to be a market for a boxier, more rugged looking unit, this is maybe the reason for the current Ford Escape's appeal. With so many new products looking like an aerodynamic exercise, this RVR GT has a chunkier look and stance that might fit the bill for these traditional buyers. The most notable feature is the oversized front grille, which is framed with chrome on this top GT model. Larger 18-inch wheels, Xenon headlights, chrome tipped exhaust and rear LED lights help round out the exterior upgrades on the GT. Priced at $28,998 this unit is fully loaded and when compared to other top models, it comes out a bit cheaper.
Simon 7:22 AM on December 22, 2012 It should come with a 5 speed automatic transmission as the another option. If the price for the GT model, it would be a slightly high enough to buy a rar 4 instead.
