The bigger Mini

The Mini Clubman is the 4-door small SUV or crossover from the Mini brand. It has the same fun-to-drive attitude that buyers from Mini expect and more space for everyday duties. The Clubman is similar to the Mini Paceman crossover.
Mini, as a brand has evolved into new categories, including compact utilities. If there is one thing Mini knows, it’s how to do compact well. The Clubman bends the lines between a 4-door hatchback car and a utility because it is available with AWD.
Powering the Clubman is a base 3-cylinder turbocharged engine with 134hp. The Clubman Cooper S and the AWD version called All4 both get a more powerful 4-cylinder turbo engine with a more practical 189hp. The base engine comes with a 6-speed manual or automatic, the S models get a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic.
The Clubman is rated at 9.7L/100km (26 MPG) in the CITY and 7.0L/100km (34 MPG) on the highway, when equipped with the larger 4-cylinder engine
All Mini models come with funky or quirky interiors depending on you take. There is a large, centre-mounted screen between the front seats, a throwback to the original Mini, which is navigated through a command dial, similar to BMWs iDrive. The screen can be equipped with navigation and a large 8.8-inch screen. The rest of the interior is filled with retro buttons, dials and toggle switches. It might be fun and funky but it isn’t the most logical design. What make this Clubman unique are the long body with four practical doors and a barn door rear cargo opening, similar to a side-by-side refrigerator. This all comes together to make a Mini, larger and more useful for a family.
Safety comes from standard front, side and curtain airbags and standard stability and traction control. The Clubman lacks advanced safety features like Blind spot warning; lane departure warning and forward collision warning with auto braking.
The Clubman starts at roughly $25,000 (US ]$24,000) and $29,000 (US $28,000) for the Cooper S and the AWD version starts at about $30,000 (US $29,000)
The Clubman is a funky take on a practical car or utility. It bends the line between the two categories and for that is a true crossover. Mini always puts handling and the fun-to-drive factor high on priorities and the S model will not disappoint.
The small 3-cylinder base unit should be tried before buying; it might be just too light on horsepower for some. The lack of advanced safety systems is surprising since the Mini is made by BMW.
