The Mitsubishi Mirage is all about good fuel economy. This is one of the lest expensive cars sold in Canada and buyers who choose this car are looking for value and to use less fuel. The Mitsubishi Mirage is a subcompact sedan or hatchback with a small 3-cylinder engine.
The Mitsubishi Mirage has two reasons to consider it in the subcompact class. First, it is one of the least expensive cars on the road and second it is one of the most fuel-efficient. It is sold as a hatchback or sedan and recently underwent a styling update.
The Mirage isn’t a powerhouse, far from it. It has a 1.2L 3-cylinder, that’s right 3-cylinder engine with the power going to the front wheels through either a 5-speed manual or CVT. The output of this small engine is 78hp. The goal here is good fuel economy, not 0-60 times.
It is rated at 6.4L/100km (37 MPG) in the city and 5.5L/100km (43 MPG) on the HWY when equipped with the CVT
As one might expect with one of the least expensive cars on the road, the interior is rather basic but surprisingly spacious thanks to a high roofline. Bluetooth is not standard but can be equipped on the base model. The middle and upper trim levels comes with a 6.5-inch display audio system with the latest Apple Car Play and Android Auto for mirroring the power of your smartphone onto the screen to access things like navigation. The Mirage can even be equipped with heated front seats.
Safety comes from standard front, side and curtain airbags, plus a driver’s knee air bag and standard stability and traction control. However the Lancer is not available with advanced safety systems like foreword collision warning with autonomous braking.
The lancer starts at roughly $12,000 (US$13,000) and the most expensive models are roughly 18,000 (US$17,000)
The Mirage is car designed for foreign markets where basic fuel-efficient cars are a requirement. In this market it is more of a study in how efficient a car can be for those that choose to drive the most efficient car possible.
The base model is very basic, so most buyers will shop in the middle to upper trim, which then begs the question; why not buy a more powerful vehicle for roughly the same price? The Mirage is a bit out of step with buying trends but it is available for those that want to be as thrifty as possible.
